United States Department of Agriculture

Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program

Project Type: Planning, Design, Construction, Maintenance
Funding Type: Federal

Funding Amount: Long-term, low-interest loans. If funds are available, a grant may be combined with a loan if necessary to keep user costs reasonable.

Eligible Applicant and Activities
Eligible applicants include: State and local governmental entities, nonprofits, and Federally-recognized tribes. Areas that may be served include: Rural areas and towns with populations of 10,000 or less -- check eligible addresses.

Eligible activities include: Acquisition financing or construction or improvement of Drinking water sourcing, treatment, storage and distribution; Sewer collection, transmission, treatment and disposal; Solid waste collection, disposal and closure; and Storm water collection, transmission and disposal. In some cases, funding may also be available for related activities such as Legal and engineering fees; Land acquisition, water and land rights, permits and equipment; Start-up operations and maintenance; Interest incurred during construction; Purchase of facilities to improve service or prevent loss of service; and Other costs determined to be necessary for completion of the project.

Water Quality Restoration Grants

Project Type: Planning, Design, Construction, Maintenance
Funding Type: State

Funding Amount: 2017 grant cycle awarded 13 grants ranging from $125,000 to $4,600,000.

Eligible Applicant and Activities
Eligible applicants include: Government agencies and nonprofit organizations.

Eligible activities include: Funding for projects that can address water quality impairment in priority regions of the State through a rotating basin approach to comprehensive regional assessment of water quality.

Funding Amount: Up to $10,000 for Resiliency Planning, Up to $30,000 for Reforestation and Tree Planting

Eligible applicants include: Municipal and county governments and their shade tree commissions, tree committees, tree boards, or tree councils.

Eligible activities include: Resiliency planning, reforestation and tree planting. Projects carried out on public property owned or maintained by a municipal or county government.

New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection

Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Program

Project Type: Planning, Design, Construction, Maintenance, Other
Funding Type: State

Funding Amount: N/A

Eligible Applicant and Activities
Eligible applicants include: Publicly or privately owned community water systems and nonprofit non-community water systems.

Eligible activities include: Eligible activities include: construction projects, including water treatment facilities, to address the correction of a system's non-compliance with Surface Water Treatment requirements; to address acute violations, maximum contaminant levels, lead and copper rule exceedances or secondary drinking water regulation exceedances; for consolidation of water systems to comply with the SDWA; for rehabilitation of existing water treatment facilities, water mains, pump stations or water storage facilities, or for new water storage facilities to maintain compliance with the SDWA and wells. Allowances for planning and design are also available.
